ISO 9001 in four words: Plan, Do, Check, Act
The whole standard follows one simple loop. Once you see it, the clauses make sense.
ISO 9001 has ten clauses, and the first three are introduction. The seven that matter, clauses 4 to 10, follow one simple loop: Plan, Do, Check, Act.
Plan (clauses 4 to 6)
Work out what your customers need and how you'll deliver it. Understand your business and the people who rely on it, get leadership behind it, and think about what could go wrong (and right).
Do (clauses 7 and 8)
Make it the way you planned. That means the right people, the right kit, the right instructions, and control over everything from quoting to dispatch, including what you buy in.
Check (clause 9)
Measure how it's going. Track a few key numbers, audit your own system, listen to customers, and have management review it all.
Act (clause 10)
Fix problems at the root, not just the symptom, and keep improving.
That's it. Every clause in the standard sits somewhere in that loop.
